Michael A. “Wheels” Glasser Jr. age 65, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. The son of Michael A. and Florence C. (Walters) Glasser he was born in Ashland, OH., on March 26, 1952. Mike had been a resident of Ashland all of his life having been employed with Western & Southern Insurance, Hospira, and currently with S.P.I. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1970 where he became a National Honor Society member, received eight varsity letters in three different sports: three in football, two in basketball, and three in track. Mike was a member of the basketball team that won the Cardinal Conference his junior and senior year, a member of the track team that set numerous conference records in the 880 relay and the medley relay. Because of these accomplishments he was selected as the 1970 varsity “Athlete of the Year”. In 1975 Mike graduated from Marietta College with a BA Degree in Sociology, a fraternity member, and played halfback with the Marietta College Pioneers. His accolades there were Most Efficient Offensive Back and MVP, First Team All Ohio Athlete Conference, Marietta Sports Team Player “Halfback” of the Decade, and placed in the 1975 edition of “Outstanding College Athletes of America”. In 1972 he entered another phase of his sports career, Fast Pitch Softball, playing center field with numerous local teams where his speed and quickness often robbed the batter of a hit or his fine and accurate throwing arm would make exceptional outs. Mike was the MVP at several tournaments playing in ASA State, National, and ICS World Tournaments. In 1997 he was inducted into the Ohio Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame and in 2000 Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren, and his dogs. Bowling also was of interest to Mike. On July 15, 1978 Mike married Pamela Gordon who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters: Amanda and Megan Glasser both of Mansfield; his parents: Michael and Florence Glasser of Ashland; 2 grandchildren: Rylee and Treyvin; and a sister, Pat Kidd of Lorain, OH. Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Thomas Glasser DVM who had resided in Ashland and Michigan. Services will be held 7:00 PM Friday, September 29, 2017 at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, OH., with Pastor Rich Pate officiating. The family will have a time of visitation Friday from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the family or in Mike’s name to the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame, P.O. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Glasser,

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's death. He was one of the finest people that I have ever known. His athletic skills were legendary but no match for his kindness. I remember well how much he loved all of his wonderful family. I will especially keep you in my thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow.
