Rosemarie Sterle, age 86, of Ashland, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brethren Care Village during the early hours of April 4, 2018.  She was born in Cleveland on February 14, 1932, the daughter of Vladislav and Magdalene (Barkovich) Volcansek.  She was a 1950 graduate of Marymount High School in Cleveland.  Mrs. Sterle had been a resident of Ashland the past 40 years.  She had been employed as an executive secretary at the Brotherhood Locomotive Engineer’s headquarters in Cleveland during the 1960’s and most recently had been with the Ashland Public Library for 10 years. Most importantly, she was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Sterle was an active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church.  She had a kind word and a bright smile for everyone she met.  She had a true servant’s heart and never spoke ill of anyone.  Rosemarie loved spending time with her family, listening and dancing to Slovenian Polka music, and doing crossword puzzles.

Rosemarie will be forever remembered and dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Edward Sterle, her children, Amy (Lance) Pate of Fort Worth, Texas, David (Catherine) Sterle of Medina, Mary (Leonard) Dolce of Mansfield, Julie (Keith) Lile of Danville, Kentucky, and Mark (Lauren) Sterle of Wadsworth; her grandchildren, Alex, Luke, Jake and Sara Purtell, Josh Dolce, Milania Sterle, and Connor and Natalie Pate.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Heyl Funeral Home with Father Rod Kriedler officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at 12:45 P.M. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio for family only.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Rosemarie’s memory to St. Edward’s Catholic School 510 Cottage St. Ashland, Ohio 44805.

Be at peace, Aunt Rose. My heart is heavy, but my mood lightens when I think of her gentle smile, long hugs and musical laugh. Uncle Ed, you and Aunt Rose are the model for a loving partnership. Amy, David, Julie, Mary and Mark, you were blessed to have her as your Mom. I was privileged to have her in my life. Aunt Rose holds a very special place in Christine's heart as well as mine. This world is diminished without Rose's light, but she has joined a greater light that forever shines for us all. Love you and miss you, always.

ED and family, I am very sad to read of Rose's passing. She was a beautiful, kind, gentle woman and a good friend. She leaves a huge void here, but brightens her new home with her presence. My prayers to you and your beautiful family.
