Bonnie Jean (Vantilburg) Puu

Bonnie Jean Vantilburg Puu age 75 of Ashland, passed away peacefully at her son’s home after a short illness with cancer.

She was born June 17, 1943 in Ashland, Ohio the daughter of Howard and Russa (Bedorf) Vantilburg.

She graduated from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology.

Bonnie met her husband Joseph Puu Sr. while they were employed at Napili Kai Beach Club Maui on vacation. They were married on July 12, 1971.

Surviving is one son Joseph A. Puu Jr. of Ashland. She is also survived by her husband’s remaining family in Hawaii.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister Emma Vantilburg and her husband Joseph.

Mr. and Mrs Puu returned to Ashland in 1971 and Mrs. Puu was employed with Robert C. Howell RDS. She was also employed at Sprint were she retired from.

Bonnie and her family would like to thank Dr. Robert Exten and Dr. Tammy Canfield and staff from Ohio Health. And also would like to thank the nurses and wonderful staff, Dr. Gahlauot, Dr. Tucker, Dr. Young, Dr. Mooney and Dr. Pierce of the University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center. Thank you also to the Nursing staff of Pathways Hospice.

Another thank you to Jean Adams, for being there at the Hospital and at home. And to anyone who called or stopped to visit while Bonnie Jean was at home.

Bonnie enjoyed flower gardening, whale watching in Maui and celebrating Hawaiian Heritage and spending time with her family. She also took pride in having dinner on the table night. She also enjoyed swimming in her son’s pool in the summer. And she truly liked to spend time with her friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Cemetery, 523 West Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Layton Broome officiating.
