Donald H. Herr

Donald H. Herr age 92, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at his residence.  He was born June 29, 1927 in Red Haw, Ohio, the son of Clayton and Ellen (Schreck) Herr.  Mr. Herr had been a lifelong resident of Ashland.  He had been employed as a mechanic and Welder, with Mansfield Tire & Rubber, and later retired from ODOT in 1997.  He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, West Salem Masonic Lodge # 398, Al Koran of Cleveland, Mansfield Commandery, Ashland Shrine Club and Chapter and Council in Ashland.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy for his service during WWII.  Donald enjoyed fishing with his friends on Lake Erie. 

On October 4, 1958 Donald married Eva Miller who preceded him in death in 2005.  Survivors include his special friend, Donna; sister, Mrs. Joann and Roger Shopbell of Ashland; sisters in-law, Mrs. Eileen Herr and Mrs. Claudia Bland; along with several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

In addition to his wife Eva, Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin Herr and sisters, Helen Leppen and Ruth Tucker.

Funeral services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Butch White officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Nankin Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.  The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Pathways Hospice and Sunshine Heath Care for the wonderful care that Don was given.  Memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to Pathways Hospice 1171 E.
