Evelyn M. Strausbaugh age 96, of Ashland, formerly of Columbiana, OH. passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at her residence. She was born April 4, 1922 in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Byron C. and Cora (Hazlett) Miller. Mrs. Strausbaugh was a 1939 graduate of West Milton High School and attended Manchester College. She retired in 1988 as a clerical worker for Salem Regional Medical Center. Prior to her work at the hospital she was a teacher’s aide for Columbiana Public Schools. Mrs. Strausbaugh was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and had been attending Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren with family for the last few years.
On September 29, 1945 Evelyn married Eldon G. Strausbaugh who preceded her in death in 2006. Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Russell) Matz of Ashland; daughter in-law, Tami Strausbaugh of New Braunfels, TX.; sister, Dorothy Parker; 4 grandchildren, Aaron Strausbaugh, Brant (Kristin) Strausbaugh, Rodney (Heidi) Matz, and Rachelle Matz; along with her 4 great grandchildren, Grace Strausbaugh, Zachary Strausbaugh, Chloe Matz and Brody Matz.
In addition to her husband Eldon, Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, David Strausbaugh and sister, Faith Smyers.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren on November 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Tom Snyder and Pastor Jeff Messner officiating. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to services. Interment will be in Columbiana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice Ashland (1171 East Main Street, Ashland Ohio) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org).
