Jeffery “Hoe” Echelberger, age 61, of Hayesville, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center. He was born January 7, 1958 in Ashland, the son of the late Dale and Florence (Krebs) Echelberger. Jeff had been a resident of Ashland County all of his life and was a 1976 graduate of Hillsdale High School. He was employed with Kokosing as an operating engineer; he previously worked for Wenger Excavating and Trimor Corporation.
Jeff was a member of the Hayesville Amvets Post 1969, American Legion Jeromesville Post 749, Operating Engineers Local #18, and the Laborers Union Local 758. He was an avid hunter especially with his grandson, Vincent; he enjoyed fishing, softball and horseshoes. He was also a sports fan especially The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.
Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Kristy and Matthew Scalesi of Jeromesville; his grandchildren, Vincent and Sophia; sister, Vickie Echelberger- King of Columbus; girlfriend, Kelly Dalton of Hayesville; and spouse of 16 years, Kathy Offhaus- Echelberger of Hayesville.
Funeral services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Karen Liddy officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeff’s memory to Heyl Funeral Home to help defray funeral costs.
