John "Larry" Willis Jr.

John “Larry” Willis Jr. age 76, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Kingston of Ashland.  He was born in Ashland on August 12, 1942, the son of John and Violet (Cline) Willis Sr.  Larry had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and a 1961 graduate of Ashland High School.  He had been employed with Union Malleable Plastic Division and later Union Malleable (U-Brand) Foundry.  He volunteered with Porter’s Power Equipment and later Central Rental.  Larry was a member of Southview Grace Brethren Church; he was active with the Grace Brethren Youth Boys/ Skywatchers program for 25 years.  He was a member of the Ashland Evening Lions Club, active for many years with the Pilot Dog Program and had been involved with the Boy Scouts of America +50 years, from Cub Scouts to a Scout Master Trainer, including sitting on Boy Scout Ohio Heartland Council.

Survivors include his brothers, Harald (Anne) Willis of Scottsdale, Arizona, David (Jennifer) Willis of Ashland County, and Kevin (Paula) Willis of Crestline, Ohio; step-sisters Dannette (Greg) Williams of Delaware, Ohio and Suzanne Briggs of Ashland County; along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother in-law, Nance and J. Bert Carlson.

Funeral services will be held at Southview Grace Brethren Church on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mark Abel officiating.  Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s (John) memory to either Southview Grace Brethren Church Skywatchers Program, 810 Katherine Ave. Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Pilot Dog Inc. 625 West Town St. Columbus, Ohio 43215.
