Richard "Dick" L. Oxender, LOVED FARMING
Richard "Dick" L. Oxender, age 76, of rural Ashland, OH., passed away Monday, February 22, 2010, at Samaritan Regional Health System Hospital. On August 15, 1933 in Ashland, OH., Mr. Oxender was born to the late Waldo and Beulah (Fluke) Oxender. He had been a resident of Ashland Co. all of his life. Mr. Oxender was employed for 45 years at F.E. Myers, but his love was farming and going to livestock and hay auctions. He graduated from Polk High School, was a veteran of the US Army, a board member and director of Nova Farmers Supply, a former 4-H Advisor, and a Myers Quarter Century Club member.
On March 9, 1957, Mr. Oxender married Sara Sigler who survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Jerry and Lisa Oxender of Nova, OH.; a daughter, Nancy Edmondson of Loudonville, OH.; 2 grandchildren: Nicole Zody and Blaine Edmondson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Oxender was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas in 2001, a brother, Doyle in 1978, and a sister, Lorna Mae Oxender in 1947.
Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, OH., with Pastor Skip Snell officiating. Interment will be at Polk Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. An online register book is available at www.heylfuneralhome.com
