Von J. Cutlip

Von J. Cutlip age 91, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Brethren Care Village.  He was born April 11, 1928 in Exchange, West Virginia, the son of the late Audre Von and Lola Mae (Blake) Cutlip.  Von had lived most all of his life in Ashland.  He had been owner/ operator of Cutlip Alignment and Brake Service for 40 years before retiring in 1988.  After retiring Von and his wife LaVone managed the Toussaint Marina for 25 years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a POW during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Assembly, the V.F.W. and the American Legion.  Von enjoyed the outdoors; gardening, hunting and especially fishing.  Von was a very loving man who enjoyed helping anyone he could.  He was also known to be a jokester and enjoyed making people laugh.

On December 25, 1951 Von married LaVone Shoemaker who survives.  Also surviving are his sons, Leland (Denise) Cutlip of Florence, AL., William “Bill” (Sharon) Cutlip of Ashland, Allen (Debra) Cutlip of Ashland, and Brandt Cutlip of Ashland; his daughter, Irene (Donald “Don”) Graber of Aitkin, MN.; his 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Iris Singelton of New Freedom, PA., Reva (Demi) Fincham of Tomrun, WV., Lela Mae (Jack) Satterfield of Fairmont, WV.; along with his brother Harry (Janette) Cutlip of Elkins, WV.

I addition to his parents, Von was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Assembly with Rev. Dr. Paul Tracey and Rev. Don Graber officiating.  Burial will follow at Red Haw Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.
