Ronald Richard Sovine, age 78 of Ashland, passed away at his residence on December 4, 2018.

Born in Perrysville, Ohio on January 26, 1940, the son of Paul and Doris (Simpson) Sovine, he was an Ashland County resident all his life.  He was a truck driver, retiring from Archway Cookies in 2002. He was also employed as a school bus driver for the Ashland and Crestview School Systems. Ron was the owner of Country Cones in Bailey Lakes, Ohio and was a volunteer fireman for the Savannah Fire Department.  In addition, he served his country as a member of the United States Army.

On November 9, 1963 Ronald was married to Judith Ritchey who survives.

In addition to his wife Judith, Ron is survived by three daughters, Laura (Mike) Jones of Ashland, Tamela (Ray) Sevin of Myrtle Beach, and Hope (Mike) Rygalski of Warren; five grandchildren, Kyle (Hillary) Kline, Kristy (Darrell) Grimwood, Scott (Amanda) Harbaugh, Haley Harbaugh and Cody Harbaugh and seven great granddaughters Emma, Ella, Erin, Shelby, Emily, Ashley, and Paisley.

Ron is also survived by one brother, David Sovine; one step brother, Terry Mohrman; two nieces, Rachel Sheller and Jamie (John) Wallery; along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister in law.

Ron loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sharing visits with his great granddaughters.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching cowboy movies, shooting guns, participating in shooting competitions and spending time with his dogs. He also enjoyed his High School class get togethers.

He was a member of the NRA, HOG and SASS.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Heyl Funeral Home.  Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Imhoff Cemetery following the funeral with military honors provided by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank NCO Hospice for their loving care and support.

I was saddened to read the news Ron's passing. I don't remember whether I had actually met him or not, but remember he had been ill for quite some time. I miss you at tax time and think of you often, wishing you were still with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief and always.
