Barbara A. (Campbell) Detrow of Ashland passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Hospice of North Central Ohio. After a long healthy life Barbara lost her battle with cancer. She was born July 8, 1926 in Mansfield to William B. and Lois (Shearer) Campbell. She grew up in Akron and lived there until her senior year in high school when she moved to Loudonville and graduated from Loudonville High School. After graduation she joined her family in Ashland. She was attending Ashland College where she met Jack; they were married May 15, 1949. Barbara and Jack are members of the First Christian Church. She had been employed with Cresco Manufacturing where she was the head of the cutting department and later was employed with Gallaher’s Drug Store before becoming a Homemaker. Barbara enjoyed tennis and played into her 80’s. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends for dinners and brunches. Barbara was also a very accomplished seamstress, knitter and crocheter. She loved her children and grandchildren. For their 50th wedding anniversary she, Jack and their good friends from Michigan flew on the Concord to London, spent a week there and sailed back on the QE II.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Michael (Joan) Detrow of Ashland; daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Don) Murphy of Houston, TX.; brother, Richard (Mary) Campbell of Ashland; her sisters in-law, Melva Campbell of Ashland, Darla Campbell of Akron; along with her grandchildren, Taylor, Rhys and Nash Detrow. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers James and William.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Barbara’s Life will be held at the Heyl Funeral Home on Friday December 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Chaplain Janet Chilcote officiating, friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Hospice of North Central Ohio 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to the First Christian Church 1425 King Rd. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
