Betty L. Carpenter age 77 of Ashland, passed away on September 4, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio in Columbus.
Born in Nansmond County, Virginia on January 12, 1948 the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Elizabeth (King) Goodwin, she had been a resident of Ashland County since 1974.
Betty had been employed at F.E. Myers and Pentair before her retirement.
On February 8, 1991 she was married to Stephen Carpenter who precedes her in death.
Surviving are three daughters; Betty (Roscoe) Bair of Ashland, Shirley (Sweet Pea) Marvin (Dink) Simmons of West Virginia and Cindy (Manny) Daniels of Ashland. Also surviving is one son in law, Francis Piatt of Ashland. Seven grandchildren also survive; Tony (Misti) Simmons, Stacy (Eric) Duposki, Jessica (Tyler) Jewell, Justin (Katalin) Piatt, Andrew Simmons, Ashley Simmons-Gollihue and Spencer Daniels. Thirteen great grandchildren also survive.
She is also survived by three brothers and two sisters; James (Katherine) Goodwin of North Carolina, Johnny Goodwin of Virginia, Jerry (Christy) Goodwin of Tennessee, Peggy Simpkins of North Carolina and Ruth Ann Thompson of North Carolina.
In addition to her husband, Stephen she is preceded in death by her parents, sister Marjorie Lawson, daughter Virginia Piatt and brothers in law, Billy Simpkins and Darrell Thompson.
Betty had been a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren and she enjoyed flower gardening, listening to Country music, dancing and loved playing practical jokes on people.
Funeral services will be held on September 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Heyl Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Strachan officiating. Friends may visit with the family on September 11, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral services in the Ashland Cemetery.
