Betty Katherine (Delman) Harper

Betty Katherine Harper, age 92, of Polk, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022 at her home after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on September 4, 1929 to Fred J. Delman and Anna (Reuckle) Delman. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1947.

Betty married Paul Z. Harper on August 13, 1950 in Bridgeport. They moved to Polk, Ohio in 1956 and had three sons who survive, Stephen Paul Harper (Chris Creamer) of Jackson Township, Timothy Mark Harper of Ashland, and Matthew David Harper (Christina Lenga) of Pemberville, Ohio. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Betty worked with Paul in their Nationwide Insurance agency for 34 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1996.

Betty is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kayla (Jack) Broske, Rachel (Carl) Platt, Joshua Harper, Cassandra Harper, and Alyssa Harper, and great grandson, Ascher Broske.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings Helen Workman, Robert Delman, and Fred Delman.

Betty’s life revolved around her unending love for family and her deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She led an active and independent life into her 90s.

Gatherings of family and friends were always filled with wonderful food, smiles, and laughter. She brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Betty served as an active member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 60 years, where she attended services regularly, served as treasurer and a greeter, participated in adult Bible studies, worked in the Ashland Food Bank, and helped the ladies of the Dorcus (Quilting) Circle make hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She also remained a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (Bridgeport) where she was baptized, confirmed, and married.

Betty also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and reading.

Betty’s sons want to express their heartfelt thanks to Terri, Rhonda, P.J., Kate, Robert, and Pathways Hospice Care for their loving care of their Mom.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Heyl Funeral Home in Ashland. Funeral services will be at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 with Pastor Karen Liddy officiating. The family will receive guests beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service at Polk Cemetery will follow.
