Betty Rader Obituary

Betty L. Rader (Long) of Ashland, Ohio, was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully into heaven on October 11, 2022, at the age of 82.

Born in Loudonville, Ohio on October 5,1940, she was the daughter of Paul R. and Dorothy T. Long (Overman) and had been a resident of Ashland and Richland County all of her life.  Betty graduated from Ashland High School in 1959 and married the love of her life and best friend, Mark Rader, on June 30, 1960.  God, family and church were central to her life and expressed by singing in church choir, teaching Sunday School, and enthusiastically sharing Jesus with those she met through work, church, hobbies, travel, and with friends and family alike.  Betty contributed to many career fields, beginning with Telephone Operator at Bell Telephone, Dental Assistant, Denture Maker, County Board of Elections, as well as engaging in promotional demonstrations for N.E. Ohio Chiropractors, and also selling Shaklee and Amway.  She was an active member of the Woodville Grace Brethren Church in Mansfield and most recently The Grace Brethren Church in Ashland, receiving unmeasurable enjoyment from her friends in the Lighthouse Sunday School Class.  She also was actively engaged with Pheasants Forever, teaching the youth how to safely handle,  shoot, and clean guns.  Gardening, flower arranging, hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, and walking in the woods were all an extension of her love for nature and appreciation of all things from God.   She loved traveling to visit family, enjoying both coasts and many states in between, as well as traveling to Africa and Wyoming on hunting expeditions and other beautiful places like Aruba.   Her infectious smile, bubbly personality, keen sense of humor and her loving and giving ways made her a joy and a delight to be around.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Mark S. Rader and their son, Stephen S. Rader (Kim) of Granville, OH and daughter, Shelly R. Boyd (Michael) of Cibolo, TX.   She is also survived by her sister, Susie A. Huff of Nova, OH and brother Paul R. Long (Judy) of Plymouth, OH, as well as 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, eldest daughter, Stephanie L. Paradise, as well as Betty's  brother, Tom R. Long.
