Breanne (Bre) M. McKean

Breanne (Bre) M. McKean age 17 of Nova, passed away unexpectedly on September 29,2023 at University Hospital after collapsing during homecoming festivities at Mapleton High School where she was part of the homecoming court. Bre was born in Ashland on November 1, 2005 the daughter of Timothy and Michelle (Sheppard) McKean and has been a Ashland County resident all of her life.

Loved by all, her quick wit, infectious laughter, beautiful smile and outgoing personality affected everyone she met. Bre loved sports of all kinds. She received multiple varsity letters each, in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was a member of the student council, and a member of National Honor Society. She was involved in Mapleton’s Advanced Art Classes as well.

She is survived by her mother and father, Michelle (Sheppard) and Tim McKean, sister Megan all of Nova, OH. Her grandparents Karen McKean of Wellington, Sue and Dean(Shep) Sheppard of Nova, Aunt/Uncle Michelle (McKean) and Greg Rees of Brunswick, Janeane (Kidd) and Ryan (Buck) Sheppard of Nova, cousins Emily Rees, Ava Flores, Owen Sheppard and Jack Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Thomas McKean.

A celebration of Bre’s life and time of gathering will take place at Ashland University’s Niss Athletic Center, 905 Moss Hill Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 on Saturday October 7th from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. prior to the Celebration service. It is asked that those wishing to attend services and gathering time be made aware that the family wishes to start as close as possible to the listed times for services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bre’s name can be made to the “Bre McKean Memorial Scholarship”, c/o Ashland County Community Foundation. This on-going yearly scholarship in Bre’s name will be given to a Female Student Athlete at Mapleton High School that fits its motto “LIVE LIKE BRE!!!”
