Carl "Nub" E. Urban

Carl E. “Nub” Urban age 99 of Ashland, passed away on June 15,2023 at Brookwood Place in Ashland.

Born in Perry Township on November 8, 1923 the son of Elton and Lelia (Jackson) Urban, Mr. Urban was a lifetime resident of Ashland County. He was a 1941 graduate of Ashland High School. Nub served his country in the Pacific as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

On February 1, 1946 he was married to Grace L. Geisinger who preceded him in death on July 16,2018.

He had been employed in sales with Metropolitan Life Insurance and Ohio Edison before his retirement. After retirement he drove people to the Airport and to Medical appointments all over the State of Ohio for 20 years. He was formerly a member of the Emmanuel Evangelical Church before becoming a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and also played on the Church Softball team. Other memberships include, American Legion Post #88, Ashland Elks #1360, lifetime member of the Ashland YMCA and he also played softball with the Faultless Rubbermen. He started playing fastpitch softball in 1940 and was involved until 1991. He was the manager of the Faultless Rubberman in 1973 and ended his career with the Trinity Lutheran Church team.

Surviving is one daughter and son in law, Barbara (Cris) Harding of Ashland. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Randy (Catrina) Harding of Lewis Center and Sandi (Dave) Green of Lewis Center. He is also survived by four great grandchildren; Bryan, Nathan and Natalie Harding and Levi Green.

In addition to his wife Grace, Nub is preceded in death by his parents; brother Earl Urban and sister Dorothy Urban.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Heyl Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin McClain officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00- 11:00 am the day of the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery with Military Honors preformed by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial Contributions in Nub’s name may be given to the Ashland YMCA Scholarship Program Partners with Youth. Nub was gifted a membership to the Ashland YMCA when he was 10 years old and was a lifetime member who was still swimming into his mid 90’s at the Ashland YMCA.

Nub’s family would like to personally thank the staff at Brookwood Place for providing loving care to Nub for the last five years. They would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their care the last few months of his life.
