Carol “Kate” A. Cross age, 79, of Ashland passed away at University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center on Monday, April 26, 2021. Born in Ashland on December 12, 1941, the daughter of Lyn and Ginny (Zehner) Carr. She had been an Ashland resident all of her life where she was a homemaker and also had been an employee of the Ashland Public Library where she ran the Bookmobile for 20 years, retiring in 2005. Kate was a 1959 graduate of Savannah High School. She was a member of the Shenandoah Christian Church, the Ohio Child Conservation league, had been a 4-H Advisor for many years and coached softball. Kate was an avid sports fan who enjoyed Ashland University football and girls basketball along with the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. She was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cattleman’s Association. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling with friends, gardening, landscaping, bowling and camping.
On October 25, 1959, Carol was married to Donald “Don” J. Cross who preceded her in death in 2016. Survivors include two sons and one daughter; Kevin Cross of Ashland, Kelly Hootman of Norwalk and Paul (Heidi) Cross of Greenwich. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Brian (Brandi) Smith, Kyla (Wes) Weiss, Kody Hootman, Brandyn Cross and Colt Cross. Four great great grandchildren and two brothers also survive; Bryce, Emma, Faith, Ivee, Gary (Janice) Carr and Bruce Carr. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive as do her beloved friends, Dick and Sandy Braun.
In addition to her husband, she is also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Heyl Funeral Home on Saturday May 1, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with Chaplin Dean Pierce officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Savannah Cemetery.
