Doris Irene Piatt

Doris Piatt, a long- time resident of the Ashland area, died Monday the 23rd of November, 2020 at Crystal Care Center in Ashland.

Born July 8, 1940 in Ashland, Ohio to William and Minnetta (Plank) Evel.  Doris was the youngest of four children.  Doris went to Nankin Elementary School and then on to Ashland High School.

On October 3, 1957 Doris married Robert Keener and had four sons,  Randy and Kay Keener, Steven Keener, Gregory and Suzzanne Keener, Eric and Sharon Keener; seven grandchildren, Krissy Manion, Jason (Cassie) Keener, Amanda (Matt) Hess, Alicia (Jerry) Ables, Benjamin Keener, Emily (Anthony) Mosley and Jordan Keener; along with fourteen great grandchildren.

On January 1, 1989 Doris married Darryl Piatt and they spent almost 32 years together.

Doris was a member and attended Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where she spent over fifty years in the music department.  She was a choir director for many years for the youth department, organized and directed the church band and played the piano and organ for church services.  Doris donated and directed the church bell choir.  Doris served on the music committee and was a Sunday School Teacher in her earlier years.  Doris and her sons also formed a Christian singing group in the late 1970’s and preformed for many religious events during that time.

Doris was a wonderful Mother, Wife, Grandmother & Great Grandmother as well as a good friend to all that she knew.  She will be sadly missed.  Doris loved good food and socializing, loved being with her family and friends, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.

She is survived by her husband, Darryl, three sons, Randy, Gregory and Eric, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Maxine Sprinkle and Pauline Rodgers; brother, Merel Evel and son, Steven Keener.

Funeral services will be held at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Steve Keib officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.  Online condolences may be left.
