Obituary

Gene Allan Geaslen age 77 was born on May 20, 1944 to Rodger Herbert and Ethel Louise (Keplinger) Geaslen at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland. He attended Fairplay, Lincolnshire, and Williamsport elementary schools and Hagerstown Junior High School. He became a member and attended the First Brethren Church in Hagerstown until he graduated from South Hagerstown High School and left to attend Letourneau College in Longview Texas. When he was 18 years old. He later transferred as a sophomore to Ashland College (now Ashland University) in Ashland Ohio where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration in August of 1966. He met the love of his life, Linda Sue Bartley in Ashland and they were married on May 27, 1967 and celebrated 54 years of marriage this year. Gene has a younger brother, Jimmie Rodger (Carol) Geaslen of Vandalia, Ohio and two younger sisters; Nancy Louise Lorraine of California, Maryland and Joyce Elaine Moore of Tracey’s Landing, Maryland. Gene and Linda have four children; Michelle Kristie (Tim) DeLaughter who are stationed in Japan, Chad Allen (Jodi) of Gilbert, Arizona, Adam Troy (Kim) of Vandalia, Ohio and Seth Alec of Ashland, Ohio. Gene and Linda are “PapPap and NanNan” to ten grandchildren; Aria, Ian, Emma, Josiah, Caleb, Zeke, Ava, Havilah, Faith and Hope. Gene is also survived by his mother in law, Janice Elaine (Bachmann/Bartley) Rowsey of Ashland, Ohio.

Gene was employed by Empire-Reeves Steel in Mansfield, Ohio and Redmond Industries in Americus, Georgia as an Industrial Engineer after College. He was later emplyed as a Plant Manager of Rockwood Manufacturing in Rossville, Indiana. He obtained his Administrator’s License at Indiana State University to become employed by the Brethren’s Home of Indiana in Flora, Indiana Quality Care Health Care in Fremont, Berea Quality Care in Rocky River and Grace Brethren Village in Englewood all in Ohio as a Health Care Administrator. Gene retired in September, 2011 as Executive Director of Grace Brethren Village and then relocated to Ashland, Ohio where he and Linda operated the Georgia Belle Inn as a Bed and Breakfast.

Gene was active in several churches as a teacher, a decon and served on several church boards both local, district and national. He served as secretary and vice-president for the Brethren National Laymen Organization and as secertary for the Brethren Publishing Comany for nine years. He was involved in the Indiana Health Care Association in both state and district positions. He is currently a member of Park Street Brethren Church in Ashland and served on the Executive Board of the Brethren Church here in Ashland. Gene enjoyed gardening, yardkeeping and woodworking in his spare time. At work he gained satisfaction working with companies with financial challenges and planning rough design and managing construction of building additions to serve peoples’ needs.

A visitation time will be held on January 2, 2022 at the Park Street Brethren Church, 619 Park Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 from 1:00 till 4:00 pm. There will be a Celebration of Gene’s life held at the church at 5:30 pm with Pastor Bill Walk , Pastor Nate Bebout and Chaplain Timothy DeLaughter officiating.

Internment will be held at the Royal Oak Memorial Gardens in Brookville, Ohio

It is Gene’s request that there be no flowers but donations be made to the Brethren Church National Office, 27 High Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805
