George D. Baxter, age 82 of Ashland, passed away on August 28, 2023 at Ohio Health Mansfield.
Born in New London, Ohio on March 22, 1941 the son of Howard C. and Dorothy (Day) Baxter he was a Ashland County resident most of his life.
Previous to his retirement Mr. Baxter was employed at Central Soya in Bellevue, Ohio . He was a veteran who served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On August 31, 1975 George was married to Racheal (Bishop) Baxter, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons; William G. Baxter of Ashland, David J. Baxter of Ashland and James R. Baxter of Michigan. He is also survived by two grandchildren; two sisters: Frances Hoeppner of Mansfield, Doris H. Baxter of Tennessee and one brother and sister in law, Ray (Phyllis) Baxter of Virginia.
Mr. Baxter is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Amanda Leigh.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2023 at the Heyl Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Pastor Brian Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland Dickey Church Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Ashland Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday September 6, 2023.
