Howard Montford Harned

Howard Montford Harned, 88, a near lifelong resident of Hayesville died peacefully in The Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing Facility in Ashland, Ohio on Tuesday evening, July 6, 2021. He was born Feb 21, 1933, the son of Russell Harned and Josephine (Kennedy) Harned. Howard grew up in Hayesville and was a graduate of Hayesville High School. He served in the Army / Korean War from 1953-1955, from which he was honorably discharged. He married Kay Suzanne (Daugherty) on October 11, 1958 and they lived in Hayesville the majority of their years, prior to Kay’s passing in April of 2020. Howard is survived by his son Eric Harned and his fiancé Lyn Mirocha, Columbus Ohio, his daughter Anita Gould of Mansfield, along with three grandchildren, Kyle Harned and his wife Christine (Zavodnik) of Plain City, Ohio, Kailey Harned of Dublin, Ohio and Garrett Snyder of Mansfield Ohio. He is likewise survived by four siblings, Betty (Harned) Becker of Wooster, Jone (Harned) Horner of Ashland, Frank Harned of Ashland and Bruce Harned and his wife Janet of Hayesville. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Russ Harned and William Harned. Howard enjoyed bowling in his younger days, listening to country music, detailing and tinkering with his cars and caring for his cats. Howard was an honorable husband, great father and a well-respected man who was loved by many for his engaging and friendly demeanor & hard work ethic. He spent his early years working at Curren’s Sohio in Hayesville, followed by many years working at McClure Motors and Cal Hans Motors in Loudonville, not to mention Zonker’s Sunoco in Hayesville. His later years were spent as a carryout at Hawkins Market/Geyer’s Market in Ashland where he worked until he was 84. Howard never knew a stranger as he was quick with a joke and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people on a daily basis. Services have been scheduled at Heyl Funeral Home for Monday, July 12, 2021 with visiting hours from 1-2 p.m. and the funeral service to follow. His burial will be at Hayesville Cemetery.
