Howard Lee Wood, age 79, of Ashland, passed away peacefully following an extended illness, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at his residence. He was born March 30, 1943 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, the son of the late William and Virginia (Moffett) Wood. He was a 1962 graduate of Ashland High School and was a lifelong resident of Ashland.
Howard was retired from Ohio Edison as an Electrician for 39 years. He owned several local small businesses in Ashland for many years. He attended Garber Brethren Church. Howard loved coaching and teaching life skills as a Little League Coach for 19 years, most of which were with the Sarver Paving Team. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians and the OSU Buckeyes. Most of all, Howard enjoyed spending time with his family and cheering his support at his children’s, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events.
On April 8, 1988 Howard married Beth (Stake) Wood who survives. Also surviving are his children, Ryan (Gail) Wood, Laura (Rodney) Barnhill, Leslie (Gary) Gunter, Eric (Lawrence) Wood, Marc Wood and Matthew (Chris) Wood; his step children, Lori Day, Gregory (Michelle) Cayse, and Tracey Cole; his grandchildren, Christopher, Timothy, David, Daniel, Krystal, Kelly, Kimberly, Michelle, Erin, Michael, Braden, Cameron, Sadie, Olivia, Ty, and Charlie; his 7 step- grandchildren; his 9 great- grandchildren; his close friend, Nancy Davis; along with his many lifelong friends, cousins and family in West Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at Garber Brethren Church on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Drew Meziere officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park. Visitation will held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Heyl Funeral Home from 2 to 4:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Howard’s memory to the Garber Brethren Church, 163 Sherman Ave. Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
