Howard (Dave) David Skillman

Howard David “Dave” Skillman age 62, of Ashland, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 23, 2019 surrounded by his family.  He was born March 4, 1957 in Muncie, Indiana; the son of the late Thomas E. and Alberta June (Taylor) Skillman.  Dave received his Associates Degree from Ball State University.  He had been a resident of Ashland since 1987.  He had been employed in food service management; being owner/operator of Denny’s Restaurant in Macedonia and later retiring as manager of Ryan’s Restaurant in 2012.  He was a 6 year active duty veteran of the U.S. Army with a rank of Sargent.  Dave had been a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1998, and was a member of the Eagles Club.  He was an avid reader, had been a chess champion in his younger years and he was a funny, smart and loving man.  He was a world traveler who especially enjoyed the beach.  Dave was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. 

On April 30, 1982 Dave married Anne Marie Copeland who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Mindy (Brad) Howell of Smithville, Daniel (Angy) Shenberger of Ashland, Rob Shenberger of Ashland, Michelle (Drew) Bowden of Lewisville, TX., and Anthony (Angela) Skillman of Phoenix, Az.; his 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Thomas E. (Barb) Skillman of Ft. Wayne, IN.; along with his sister, Becky (Tom) Daugherty of Avon, IN.

Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with Pastor Harry Strachan officiating.  A Memorial service will also be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church with Harry Strachan officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s memory to Calvary Baptist Church 210 N. Davis Rd. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
