James Paul Getz age 86 of Polk, passed away at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton on October 26,2024.
Born in Hayesville, Ohio, on February 11, 1938, the son of Carl and Mary Esther (Finley) Getz, he had been a resident of Ashland County all of his life. On July 29, 1972, he was married to the love of his life, Karen Gibson who survives. Jim was a retired employee of FE Myers with over 40 years dedicated to the company where he was a much loved and respected foreman.
He was a member of the Ashland High School Class of 1956. He was also a member of the Cloud Chasers of Ashland where he liked to fly his remote control helicopters. As a younger man, Jim raced his cars at Dragway 42, winning many trophies.
In addition to his wife Karen, he will be greatly missed by three daughters; Gail Getz, Laurie (Jerry) Nichols and Jill Moody all of Ashland. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Gary Nichols, Sheri Nichols, Dylan Moody, and Christopher Runions. He is also survived by his (four legged) son he never had, Reggie.
In his freetime he enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved going on car rides with his family, his wife, or his life long friend, Jim Cole. He also liked finding deals at garage sales. Jim especially loved spending time with his family which he considered to be his greatest treasures.
A memorial service will be held on November 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Trinity Country Church, 1301 State Route 89, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am till 12:00 pm at the church.
