James “Jim” E. Lehman age 68, of Ashland, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at UH Samaritan Medical Center following complications from COVID- 19. He was born January 18, 1953 in Cuba, NY., the son of the late Edward and Mary Helen (James) Lehman. Jim was a 1972 graduate of Belmont Central School. He had been a resident of Ashland since 1978. Jim had been employed with various jobs, most recently he was a cook at the Council on Aging. Jim was a member of the New Life Community Church where he had been a former board member, usher/ greeter and was the official church Hugger. He was an avid Bible reader, prayer warrior, and caretaker with a true servant heart. Jim was a veteran of the US Navy where he was a cook. He had a love for the outdoors enjoying fishing and hunting along with passing that love to his family. Jim also enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking and hot peppers. He was very much a people person who never met a stranger. He was a family man who enjoyed keeping close with his children and grandchildren, and was known by his granddaughter as “Pie”.
On July 12, 1975 Jim married Shirley (Corbin) Lehman who survives. Also surviving are his son, Joshua Lehman of Lancaster, PA.; daughter, Jessica (Javan) Shaw of Akron; grandchildren, Josh Shaw and Aviana Shaw; brothers, Jon Lehman of Ashland and Jerry Lehman of Belmont, NY.; sisters, Jane (Bryan) Baker of Nova and Julie Lehman of Belmont, NY.; along with his sisters in-law, Marilyn (John) Hultzman of Hollywood, FL. and Sharon Shipp of Nashville, TN.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Lehman and sister in-law, Judy Lehman.
Funeral services will be held at the New Life Community Church on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dave McNeely officiating, masks and social distancing are suggested. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the New Life Community Church 1489 St. Rte. 511 Ashland, Ohio 44805.
