We announce with great sadness that Jerry G. Mack, “Poppop” passed away at the age of 70 on Friday, November 11, 2022 at UH Cleveland Medical Center after a long, hard fought battle with his health. He was born August 22, 1952 in Ashland, the son of the late Guy and June (Harper) Mack. Jerry had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and a 1970 graduate of Ashland High School. Family and friends knew him as ambitious and hardworking from a very young age. Jerry spent most of his working career at the City of Ashland, where he retired in 2019 as the City Services Director. A Veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard, he served with the 1486 Transportation Company for 16 years as a Mechanic. Jerry was also known as a master mechanic, able to fix any mechanical problem brought before him. The Owner of Mack’s Garage, he built, repaired, sold and raced go karts, and enjoyed teaching young drivers techniques on winning races. Jerry was a classic car enthusiast and loved his old 1954 blue Chevy truck. He and his wife, Kathey enjoyed attending and participating in car shows with their special group of friends. Jerry was a member of “The Goodguys,” and was an instrumental piece in bringing the Ashland Dream Cruise Car Show to the city. It was no secret that Jerry loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Over the years, he had become a loyal fan of the Lucas Cubs, never missing a game until his health prevented him from attending.
On January 3, 1998 Jerry married Kathey (Ramsey) Mack who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Carrie (John) Fanello of Lucas and Kelly Royster of La Grange, KY; his grandchildren, Andrew Fanello, Anthony Fanello, Emma Guest, and Brady Guest; along with his brother, Terry (Judy) Mack of Ashland.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Beth Mack.
