John R. Donelson

John R. Donelson, age 89, of Ashland, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Born in Ashland on October 28, 1931, the son of Carl G. and Lottie (Harpster) Donelson. He was an Ashland resident for most of his life. Mr. Donelson was a cereal chemist for forty years, who was employed by the USDA Soft Wheat Quality Lab.

On August 7, 1965, John was married to Sandra J. Stoufer who preceded him in death on June 3, 1995.

Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Kristie) Donelson of Ashland. Mr. Donelson is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Donelson was a graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1949 and a graduate of Ashland College Class of 1956. He also served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army in which he served most of the war in the 406th Medical General Laboratory in Tokyo. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland. He particularly enjoyed attending and supporting Ashland University athletic events. He was a member of the Ashland University Fast-break Club and an avid fan of AU women's basketball. He also enjoyed attending events held by the Ashland Symphony Orchestra.

A memorial celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
