John C. Purdy

John Carlton Purdy age 93 of Ashland, passed away on April 9, 2020. Born in Ashland the son of Lake and Gertrude (Farver) Purdy on November 11, 1926, he had been an Ashland resident all of his life.

On March 19, 1949 John was married to Patsy Lou Speck who preceded him in death on December 26, 2013

John and Patsy had two children who survive Linda (John) McMillen of Westfield Center, Ohio and Bruce (Cathy) Purdy of Ashland.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Matt (Heather) Purdy of Sandusky and Hayley Anderson of Ashland; his step grandchildren, Kat (Dan) Hlavin of Arlington, VA., Steve (Danika) McMillen of Unionville, PA., and Scott McMillen of Chicago; his  great grandchildren, Kaiya, Adrik and Kade Purdy of Sandusky; along with his step great grandchildren, Jack and Nora Hlavin.  In addition to his wife Patsy, John was preceded in death by a step granddaughter, Lisa Galvin.

Mr. Purdy was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II in the Asiatic Theater and was involved in battles at Guam and Marianes. He was a member of the American Legion Post #88 and the Ashland VFW. He had been a long time employee of the A.L. Garber Company and retired from Carton Service in Shelby Ohio.

A memorial service remembering John’s life will be held at a later date.
