John (Jack) Harrison Walker aged 83 of Ashland, passed away on Wednesday July 21, 2021 at Brethren Care Nursing Center.
Born in Ashland on May 4, 1939, the son of John Otis Walker and Mary Jane (Echelberger) Steiner he was a Ashland County resident all of his life.
He was a member of the Ashland High School Class of 1957 and a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School. He also served as an usher, co-chaired the kitchen committee and was President of the church council.
Mr. Walker was a veteran who served his country as a member of the U.S. Airforce during the Berlin Crisis and also as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard. He was a life member of the American Legion where he was past commander of Post #88 and a life member of the Am Vets.
He worked in sales and as a journeyman tool and die maker, he owned and operated Park Avenue Office World in Mansfield from 1969 to 1978. He served as District Representative for Congressman Donald J. Pease from 1983-1993. Mr. Walker served as Director of the Ashland County Board of Elections from 1995-2002 and he also was Construction Manager for Steiner Construction.
Surviving are two sons; John Charles (JC) Walker and fiance Kelley Thomas of Ashland; William (Bill) Edward and Michele (Shelley) (Derexson) Walker of Westerville, Ohio.
Five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.
He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers; Patricia Hildebrand of Nankin, Mary (David) Hudak of Bloomington Indiana, Philip Ohl of Ashland and James D. (Donnie) Steiner of Mansfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his parents and his step parents, John (Mary Jane) Steiner and Dorothy (Otis) Walker.
A private family funeral service will be held for Mr. Walker.
