Kay Harned Obituary


Kay Suzanne Harned, 82, of Ashland died late Tuesday evening, April 21, 2020 in The Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing Facility here in Ashland after an extended battle with dementia.



She was born October 1st, 1937 in Ashland the daughter of Earl Wayne Daugherty and Bessie Marguerite (Cunningham) Daugherty.



She grew up in the Ashland area and was a graduate of Ashland High School. She married Howard Montford Harned on October 11, 1958 and lived the majority of those 61 years in Hayesville. Kay was a homemaker, but she also worked as an accounts payable clerk at Coburn, Challenge Fastener and prior to that Home Hardware for many years before retiring about 20 years ago.



She is survived by one sister, Mary Lou (Daugherty) Gusan and one brother Dennis Daugherty. She was preceded in death by both her parents, along with one brother Edward Daugherty, and one sister, Nancy (Daugherty) Maynard. Kay had two children, a son, Eric Howard Harned of Columbus and a daughter, Anita Suzanne (Harned) Gould of Mansfield. She had three grandchildren, Kyle Harned of Plain City, Kailey Harned of Columbus and Garret Snyder of Mansfield.



Kay lived a simple life and took great pride in her flower gardens. Kay loved to mow her yard and be in the sun. She enjoyed bowling and crocheting, but most of all Kay enjoyed her cats, feeding wild birds and feeding any stray animal that wandered on her porch. She was blessed with a giving heart.



Based on the nationwide restrictions surrounding COVID-19, there will be no official calling hours or visitation beyond immediate family. A private funeral service will be handled by Heyl Funeral Home. Kay will be buried at Hayesville Cemetery.
