Kay Marlene Suittor,89, passed away Monday, July 8,2024 at University Hospital, Samaritan Medical Center. She had been a resident at Brethren Care Nursing Home since 2009.
Kay was born August 18,1934, the daughter of Carl and Marian (Burgman) Suittor, who preceded her in death in 1989 and 1981, respectively. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Bessie Suittor and Harry E. and Beulah Burgman.
Kay attended the Ohio State School for the Blind for 14 years, and operated for 35 plus years the concession stand at the Ashland County Courhouse, which was under the supervision of the State of Ohio, Commission for the Blind.
Kay enjoyed road trips and flying to Texas to visit her uncle, Harry E. “Twitch” Burgman Jr., and his family, in Georgetown, Texas. Kay also enjoyed visiting various elementary schools in Ashland County, sharing her experiences as a blind person, and showing the students how to read and write Braille. Mostly Kay like playing her harmonica. She played for the children and with anyone playing music – any time, any place!
Kay attended Garber Brethren Church in Ashland, until she was physically unable to do so. She is survived by may friends and acquaintances, including special friends Mary Hammond, Beverly Yeager, Janice Rowsey and Karon Summer.
Services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Friday July 12, 2024 at 11:00 am, with calling hours and hour before the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery.
