Kevin Scott Simmons

Kevin Scott Simmons of Ashland, Ohio passed away peacefully at the age of 60 on November 1, 2024, after a brave battle with liver cancer. The son of Loris (Jim) Simmons and Rosa Lee Simmons, he was born at Samaritan Hospital August 30, 1964.

He graduated Ashland High School in 1983. He worked many years at Abbott/Hospira rubber and latex facility in Ashland until it closed in 2007. After that he worked at Novatex, also in Ashland, until 2017.

Growing up he spent summers working on his Grandpa Jack’s farm in West Virginia. He loved being outside in the country, helping to feed the animals, caring for the land, and putting up hay for the winter. These were his fondest memories of childhood and spent many hours telling stories about how much he loved and missed those days.

Kevin was an avid reader. He read thousands of books including WWII, Vietnam, Aviation and Stephen King novels. A believer in Christ, he also spent many hours reading and studying scripture in the bible. He also loved competing in tractor pulls, collecting guns, building and painting models, and visiting the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loris (Jim) Simmons and grandparents, Leonard (Jack) Scott, Dicie Scott, Charles Simmons and Carmel Simmons.

He is survived by his mother, Rosa Lee Simmons and sister, Lisa (Randy) Honaker. Also surviving are many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins and life-long friends, Harold Brown of North Dakota and Kent Smith of Ashland.

Visitation will be held at Heyl Funeral Home Wednesday November 6, 2024 from 12:00 pm till 2:00 pm in Ashland, Ohio. Visitation and funeral will be held at McCullough Raiguel Funeral Home, Saturday November 9, 2024 from 11:00am till 1:00pm in Harrisville, West Virginia. Graveside service and burial will be at Fought Cemetery in Newark, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ashland County Cancer Association or The Humane Society of Ashland.
