Margaret Eileen (Streit) Kane

Margaret Eileen Kane, age 99, of Ashland, passed away Sunday February 12, 2023 at the Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 7, 1923 in Ashland County, the daughter of Benjamin and Erma (Lotz) Streit. Margaret had been a lifelong resident of Ashland. In 1986 Margaret retired from the Faultless Rubber Co. after 35 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary, WW I Auxiliary Barracks 335, and had been a very active member of the VFW Auxiliary for 79 years, where she had been in charge of the “Poppy Girls” for many years. She was also active with the Senior Citizen Center and the Council on Aging. Margaret enjoyed line dancing, camping and loved to travel. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren who where her world.

On November 8, 1945 Margaret married William E. Kane who preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Kane- VanBremen and Constance Parker both of Ashland; her son, William D. Kane of Lake Havasu, AZ.; her 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 5 great- great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, William, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Lee Kane; sons in-law, Harold J. Parker and William R. VanBremen Sr.; brothers, Clarence Streit, Walter Streit, Charles Streit, and Benjamin Streit Jr.; and sister, Nellie Streit.

Graveside services will be held at the Trinity White Church Cemetery on Monday February 20, 2023 at 11:30 AM with Chaplain Reginald Cureton officiating. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Ashland County Cancer Assoc. 1011 E.
