Monte L. Bowman

Monte L. Bowman age 82 of Ashland, passed away peacefully November 30, 2025 at The Arbors of Mifflin after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.

Born on May 9, 1943 in Sandwich, Illinois to Freda (nee Wells) and Karl Bowman. Monte was a graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1961 and was noted for completing 12 years in the Ashland School System without ever being absent or tardy. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a proud American.

Monte was happiest when he was in the company of friends and family entertaining the with his corny jokes (whether they wanted to listen or not) and his self-proclaimed knowledge of trivial pursuit. He was a person who never met a stranger and was born with the gift of gab which served him well for the bartender jobs he loved. He was also an avid drag-racer and car show aficionado in his 1933 and 1940 Willy’s “The Undertaker” with his close friends comprising the D&B Racing Team. We will all miss his friendly ways and great smile. He was a huge animal lover and grew up with many pets. Emmy was his last cat after his illess progressed, but he had rescued her on the road with serious injuries, and even though she lost a lef, she went on to live a long and playful life.

Monte is survived by his niece Melanie (Wayne Jay) Heffelfinger, nephew Rick (Kimberly) Crossen, former wife, Brenda, two half siblings and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents: his sister and brother in law, Nylia and Dale Crossen: nephew Eddie Crossen and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Arbors of Mifflin and Southern Care Hospice of Mansfield for their kindness and care to Monte which will never be forgotten and to Heyl Funeral Home for their compassion and assistance to his family.

A time of visitation and remembrance of Monte’s life held at the Heyl Funeral Home on Wednesday December 10, 2025 from 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm
