Pauline Bodnar Obituary

Pauline Elizabeth Bodnar, 98 of Ashland passed away peacefully at her home on July 11, 2020. She was born on January 16, 1922 in Lorain, Ohio the daughter of Paul and Ebba (Erickson) Cuenin, both deceased. She married William L. Bodnar, the love of her life on June 7, 1941 and shared 69 wonderful years together before he passed away in December of 2010.
She was an original "Rosie the Riveter", having worked in the Elyria Defense Plant during World War II, and while her husband was in the Army, she and her father kept the family Service Station and garage open for business.
At the age of 41, she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Education from Kent State University, and began teaching in the Black River School District, from which she retired after 20 years of service.
She was a devout Christian and attended Church in the Sullivan area, where she was a member of the Sullivan Eastern Star and several other church ministries. Her faith and her music played an important role in her life and she was the pianist for her Church while living in Sullivan. In later years, after retirement, they moved to Ashland and joined the Grace Brethren Church, where she belonged to the Builder's A.B.F. class and various other ministries.
She is survived by her sons, David (Ada) Bodnar and William (Melody) Bodnar . Four grandchildren also survive; Christopher (Carie) Bodnar, Melissa (Steve) Lopez, Rachel Painter and Jacob (Megan) Painter. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Hannah Deskins, who lovingly cared for her in her final days and Madison Painter. In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert (Helene) Cuenin, and two sisters, Dorothy who died in infancy and Mildred Eileen (Ronald) McNair.
There will be no calling hours and a family graveside service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman on July 16, 2020 with Pastor Norm Johnson officiating where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
