Richard "Dick" V. Goon

Richard “Dick” V. Goon age 67, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He was born in Ashland on August 30, 1954, the son of the late Charles “Tony” and Mary Etta (Shankland) Goon. Dick was a lifelong resident of Ashland and was a 1972 graduate of Ashland High School. He had been employed with Welsh Plumbing & Heating for 30 years before retiring in 2014, he had previously worked with Ashland Comfort Control. Dick was a member of the American Legion, Amvets, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a past member of the V.F.W. He and his wife Karen were operators of D & K Karaoke, which they both enjoyed. He also enjoyed racing, NASCAR, and was an avid sports fans including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.

On April 12, 1986 Dick married Karen Garlick who survives. Also surviving are his children, Rich (Gina) Goon of Mansfield, Mary (James Butts) Goon of Ashland, and John (Whitney Cadwallader) Goon of Ashland; his grandchildren, Stephen and Julie; brother, Thomas (Barbara) Goon of Ashland, sisters, Bonnie (Douglas) Howell of Ashland, Charlotte (Jack) Dodds of North Carolina, and Peggy Funk of West Virginia; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister and brother in-law, Shelia and Bob Mondragon.

The family will receive friends at Heyl Funeral Home on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service at New Pittsburg Cemetery will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM with Chaplain Doug Olsen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Ashland County Cancer Association 1011 E. Main St. Suite A, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Online condolences may be left for the family.
