Roberta "Bobbi" Clinger- Harpster Obituary

Roberta “Bobbi” Wenninger- Clinger- Harpster, age 75, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Brethren Care Village.

Born August 11, 1946 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Gus and Janet (McFarland) Wenninger. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Wenninger, son in-law Raymond Lance and second husband Carlton Harpster.

Survived by sisters, Judith Schuster and Penelope (John) Stiefel, daughters Angela (Derek) Berresford, Suzanne Clinger, beloved granddaughters Devin and Aliya Berresford and her daughters’ father, Bill Clinger. Also, several nieces and nephews.

Bobbi worked many jobs over her lifetime in Ashland in accounting departments and, after obtaining her Bachelor’s degree at Ashland University reached the position of Controller. By far, she was most proud of her 2nd career as Executive Director of the Ashland County Cancer Association and then the Ashland Christian Health Center. Lifelong Lutheran and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bobbie was most proud of her family’s heritage. She is a direct descendant of the Copus Family whose name can be found in almost all Ohio history books due to the infamous Copus Massacre which was a historical moment in the War of 1812. The Copus family were good friends of Johnny Appleseed and the Indians with whom they lived among. In addition, she lobbied for the Copus Family to be recognized as a First Family of Ashland County by the Ohio Genealogical Society.

One of her greatest joys was vacationing at Ivy Lodge at Pine Lake with her family. So many great memories made with her daughters, their spouses, her granddaughters and treasured family members, John and Penny Stiefel and Eric, Jodi, Sami and Jesse Honaker.

There will be a private family Celebration of Bobbi’s life. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Ashland County Cancer Association or the Ashland Christian Health Center. Online condolences may be left for the family.
