Roger Wilson Sr. Obituary

Roger Dale Wilson Sr. age 76, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born May 15, 1946 in Louisa, KY., the son of the late Lewis and Leona (Thompson) Wilson. Roger had been employed with LTV Steel in Cleveland as a mechanic for 30 years before retiring. Roger's family lived in West Virginia during his early years .  The family moved to Mansfield, Ohio but Roger always considered West Virginia his "down home" roots.   He enjoyed his camper, camping and spending time at Charles Mill Lake Park along with riding his Honda Gold Wing. Roger was a very kind and gentle soul that truly enjoyed helping people. He was a man of few words but was a good listener who loved his family deeply. He was a member of the Compassion Church and a member of the Ashland County Park District both of which he volunteered for, when something needed done he did it. He was also a “volun-told” for several other local agency's that his wife, Barbara volunteers for.  He was a Veteran of the US Army where he had served during Vietnam.

On June 19, 1993 Roger married Barbara (Majeske) Wilson who survives. Also surviving are his children, Roger D. (Tammy) Wilson Jr. of Shiloh, OH., Diana (Steve) Johnson of Peoria, AZ., and Matthew Wilson of N. Las Vegas, NV.; his step children, Michael (Marcia) Daugherty of Columbia, TN., Vicki Daugherty of Ashland, and Leslee (Mitch) Culbert of Wilmington, OH.; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his siblings, Gary (Regina) Wilson, Karen “Susie” (Gary) Cole, and Charlotte Wilson; his brother in law, William Majeske; his sister in law, Anita Wilson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother Don Wilson.

There will be a Celebration of Roger’s Life at Heyl Funeral Home on Monday January 16, 2023 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Travis Mckenzie officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 10:00 AM till service time at the funeral home. There will be a private family interment at the Thompson Family Cemetery in West Virginia at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to Compassion Church Ashland, Ashland County Cancer Association or Ashland Christian Health Center.
