Ruth Marilyn Hoover age 91, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at her residence. She was born April 30, 1932 in Ashland, the daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys (Rader) McQuate. Ruth had been a lifelong resident of Ashland.
Her working years included proof-reading with A.L. Garber Co., sales with Avon Products, clerk at 12th Street Market, sales with Hostettler’s Office Supplies, freelance proof-reading with dozens of contract books, and book-keeping and front teller with Bank One from where she retired in 1996 after 30 years of service.
Ruth was an active member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Civil Air Patrol Auxiliary and was active with the Merry Mrs. Club. Ruth served on the Board of Elections for over 50 years. She had been a volunteer at the Ashland County Fair for 70 years, where she served on the Hobby Building Committee for 50 years and later worked the ticket gate for the next 20 years. Ruth was very active with her children's school. She had been a Den Mother, a Room Mother, and was a leader in the PTA – holding many office positions over her 20 years of affiliation. She was an avid Cleveland Indians Fan, enjoyed league bowling at Luray Lanes, Jigsaw and crossword puzzles, Wii bowling, and Bingo.
Ruth especially enjoyed spending time with her family. On June 4, 1952 Ruth married Richard M. Hoover who preceded her in death in 1998. Survivors include her children, Randy L. (Sue) Hoover of Ashland, Rhonda L. Hill of Mansfield, Richard L. (Laurie) Hoover of North Lewisburg, Robin L. (Terry) Hildebrand of Ashland, and Rita L. (Christopher) Mowry of Grafton; her numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great, great grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister Maribelle J. Boales of Ashland and sister in-law, Betty McQuate of Ashland. In addition to her parents and husband, Richard, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Eldon McQuate and Marion McQuate along with her sisters, Eileen Powell, Helen Humrichouser, and Neva Wilke.
Funeral services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Snyder officiating, Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from to 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Brethren Care home health care aides for their special care of Ruth, especially Rebecca Roberts.
