Shirley J. Durieux, age 78, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at UH Samaritan Medical Center. She was born June 13, 1943 in New Castle, PA., the daughter of the late Jesse and Mildred (Montgomery) Dean. Shirley grew up in Deerfield, Ohio before moving to Ashland in the mid 70’s. She was a Homemaker and held various positions in Ashland including her favorite at Luray Lanes. Shirley enjoyed bowling, jig saw puzzles, crochet, working in her yard and had a love for cats. She was a very feisty lady who enjoyed socializing and having fun.
On December 5, 1975 Shirley married the love of her life, Ernest “Ernie” L. Durieux who preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include her children, Duane “Robert” (Jan Curtis) Hoover of Mogadore, OH., Pamela J. Hoover of Wadsworth, OH.,and Daniel H. Hoover of Hitchcock, TX.; her grandchildren, Kristina Clem and Andrew Ford; sister, Ellen (Donald) Reagan; along with her brothers, Jesse (Terri) Dean Jr. and Ed (Tracey) Dean.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ernie, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Effie Mae Deuley and brother in-law, Denzil Deuley.
There will be a private family burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. There will be a public Celebration of Shirley’s life held at a later date.
