Obituary

Shirley Ann (Schuck) Mondragon age 86, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at her residence at her home with her children following a short battle with Leukemia. She was born March 14, 1937 in Ashland, the daughter of the late George and Maxine (Baum) Schuck. Shirley had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and a graduate of Ashland High School. She had been employed with the U- Brand Corp., Good Shepherd Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the Dairy Dolly. Shirley was a very giving person helping anyone in need and being a caregiver for many people. On March 14, 1965 Shirley was married to Julio “Joe” Mondragon who precedes her in death.

 

Survivors inlcude her daughters, Wendie (Dan) Napier of Clayton, North Carolina, Betty (Kevin Hootman) Gillespie of Jeromesville and Helen (Ken) Howell of Polk; her son, William “Bill” Mondragon of Ashland; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; along with her brother, Roger Schuck of Engelwood, FL.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Julio “Joe” Mondragon in 1994; son and daughter in law Robert “Bob” Mondragon and Shelia (Goon) Mondragon; granddaughter, Heather Mondragon; and grandson Glen “G.W.” W. Gillespie II; Brother George Jay Schuck Jr. and three sisters; Karen (Schuck) Aquirre, Sandra Schuck and Patricia Schuck.

 

Shirley was a twenty plus year member of the Bethel Baptist Church and more recently an active member of the Ashland Church of the Nazarene. She was involved in various organizations and outreach programs through the Church of the Nazarene. Shirley had a giving heart and loved the Lord and her family above herself. She cared for her children and other children in her home for many years. She enjoyed gardening and growing her own vegetables and canning them. She went back to work when her children became teenagers working at the Good Shepherd Home for 15 plus years. After the death of her husband she retired and was employed at the Dairy Dolly which allowed her to take on the responsibility of caring for her youngest grandson and help her youngest son.

 

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at Ashland Church of Nazarene on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00am with Pastor Dave Langdon officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to service at the church. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting family with funeral arrangements. Burial will be at Nankin Cemetery.
