Sonja Sue (Hiller) Bringman

Sonja Sue Bringman, age 83, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Ashland on July 11, 1939, the daughter of the late Ora Leroy and Phyllis Maxine (Latter) Hiller. Sonja was a lifelong resident of Ashland. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1957 and received her Registered Nursing Degree from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Sonja was a Registered Nurse for 41 years. She was an employee at Samaritan Hospital, Ashland Family Practice, and the Ashland City- County Health Department. Sonja started the Paramedic Program and training for the Ashland City Fire Department, where she received the “Key to Ashland” from Mayor Richey. She was also instrumental in founding the ICU department at Samaritan Hospital. While working as a Home Healthcare Nurse at the Ashland Health Department, she touched many lives and families. Sonja was also an active member of Ashland Christ United Methodist Church. There, she was involved with the Cross Talk Sunday School Class, served as an Usher, was a member of the Altar Guild, served as a Youth Leader, and was involved with Vacation Bible School.

She was a member of Eastern Star, The Samaritan Hospital Alumni Association, The RN Association, and was a Volunteer for Samaritan Hospital for over 20 years. Sonja was very devoted to her family, never missing any sporting events, school functions, or activities in which her children or grandchildren were involved. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking.

Sonja is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, George E. Bringman. Also surviving are her children, Valeria (Dale) Kline of Lexington, OH, Alan (Leigh) Bringman of Galloway, OH, and Pamela (Sean) Snow of Mansfield, and her brother, Danny (Kathy) Hiller of Ashland. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Justina Fabich, Julia Fabich, Amanda Bringman, Zachary Bringman, Cameron (Aubrey) Snow, Mackenzie Snow, and Kylie Snow; and great-grandchildren Emmitt Snow and Bailey Snow. In addition to her parents, Sonja was preceded in death by her brother, Ed Lee Hiller.

Funeral services will be held at Ashland Christ United Methodist Church on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Snyder and Pastor Kyle Gould officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Heyl Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made, in Sonja’s memory, to the Ashland Fire Rescue Squad C/O Ashland Fire Department Training Fund, 206 Claremont Ave. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
