Thomas Workman Obituary

Thomas E. Workman of Ashland, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at his residence. Tom was born March 5, 1936 in Ashland and was the son of the late Donald and Evelyn Workman. He moved to Loudonville during his elementary school years. Tom was a 1956 graduate of Loudonville High School, excelling in sports, especially football and basketball.

Working with his father, brother, and cousins, Tom first started work at Cooper Brothers for 10 years, then built ten homes in the Ashland and Loudonville area. Continuing his business career in construction, Tom founded Workman Concrete specializing in home and commercial sites for 15 years retiring in 2012, also encouraging his children in the trade.

Workman was a fireman and medic with the Ashland Fire Department from 1966 till 1991, beginning as a volunteer from 1962 till 1966. He was instrumental in building the Fireman’s Cabin on State Route 511 and led in the transfer of the cabin property to The Ashland County Park District.

Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as a church Trustee.

Tom lived in Ashland County all his life. He especially enjoyed living in country homes he built and sailing on Charles Mill Lake. Tom also enjoyed music, attending events such as those at Myers Bandshell, Ashland High School, and The Renaissance. In his younger years he “played at” golf and organized excursions to the east coast with friends.

On January 19, 1996 Tom married his wife of 26 years, Margaret “Maggie” (Nesbit) Workman who he had happily spent 31 years together with survives. Also surviving are his children, Connie Workman of Perrysville; Vinton Workman of Nova, Renold Workman of Bellevue, Tim (Christine) Workman of Ashland, and Brian (Rachel) Workman of Ashland, Jason (Shawna) Finley of Cincinnati, and Joanne McQuillan of Ashland; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his brother, Frederick Steven (Cammie) Workman; and his sister, Donna (Leroy) Workman Weaver.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother- fellow firefighter, Robert V. Workman.

A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Allan Bevere officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM till service time at 3:00 PM at the church. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to the First United Methodist Church 220 Sandusky St. Ashland, Ohio 44805. Online condolences may be left for the family.
