William C. Nardo “Bill”, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at his residence. Bill was born April 4, 1939 in New Cumberland, WV., to the late Nicolas and Katie (Zielensky) Nardo. Bill attended Marshall University and played football for the “Thundering Herd” on a football scholarship. Following graduation from Marshall, he began his career teaching health and physical education. He taught and coached in Lucas, Ohio the last twenty four years before retiring. Bill loved coaching the “Lucas Cubs” football teams. Bill worked the summers teaching Driver’s Education and as a Park Ranger at Charles Mill Lake. The summers were also filled with Bill coaching Summer League baseball teams for his sons. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s Baseball, Softball, Football and Basketball games. Family and sports were a major part of his life, he loved them both. Bill was a member of Marshall University Scholarship and Big “M” Club. He attended Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Ashland.
On January 6, 1961 Bill married Sandra (Ellingwood) Nardo who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Jeff (Marla) Nardo of Ashland and Brent Nardo of Mansfield; his brothers, Nick (Wadeanne) Nardo and Gary Nardo; his grandchildren, Amanda (Jarred) Bates and Brandon (Lindsey) Nardo; along with a great grandson, Holland Nardo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Kay Ashby officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Heyl Funeral Home from 6 to 8:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to your local hospice. Bill as been under home care from Kindred Hospice, 112 Harcourt Rd. Suite 3, Mt. Vernon, OH 43050.
