Martin Eugene “Bud” Hurst age 89, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital.  He was born in Weston, West Virginia on July 11, 1928, the son of Martin and Dessie Leona (Barlett) Hurst.  In his younger years had had worked in the coal mines, was a lumber jack and worked in a saw mill.  He later retired from F.E. Myers where he was a fork lift operator and foundry worker.  Mr. Hurst was a people person and was known by many nick names Dad, Pop and Old Man.  He enjoyed fishing, scraping, going to garage sales, flea markets and going out to eat.

 

He married Jo- Anne (Pitts) Hurst on September 29, 1971, she preceded him in death in 2003.  Survivors include his children, Carolyn (Loyel) Hurshberger of Ashland, Gene (Cheryl) Hurst of West Virginia, Barb Reeves of North Carolina, and Kip Reeves of North Carolina; his 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; along with his companion Susan Baughman of Ashland.

 

Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jo-Anne; son, Gary Reeves; brothers, Henry Hurst, William “Bill” Hurst, Jack Hurst, Raymond Hurst; and sisters, Bertha Parker and Emojean Keesecker.

Funeral Services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Don Earlenbaugh officiating.  Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 2 to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Heyl Funeral Home 227 Broad St. Ashland, Ohio 44805 to help defray costs.
